Split double fore-edge painting: The Holy Bible, 1796

This rare split double fore-edge painting depicts two different scenes. Each individual painting covers half of the text block. One painting shows a hay wagon with two figures and village scene. When turning the book over and fanning the pages the scene changes show six figures tending to the hay in a field with a village in the distance. This copy of 'The Holy Bible' from 1796 is bound in a red straight grained morocco binding with gilt tooling.
