Digital Collections Copyright Statement

Using our Digital Collections

You may copy and reuse material from the University of Sydney Library's Digital Collections for research and study, provided you comply with the Australian Copyright Act 1968 and any other additional conditions that may apply, including cultural or sensitive reasons. For material that is still in copyright, you may need to contact the copyright owner and seek their permission before using the content.

For general information about copyright in library collections please refer to information on the National Library of Australia's website.

Public domain material

Where possible, the University of Sydney Library has identified works that are no longer under copyright and are in the public domain. These works are free to use for any purpose. To credit the Library, please use: "From the University of Sydney Library" and include a link to the work.

First Nations material

The University of Sydney Library is committed to ensuring appropriate access to material that relates to First Nations communities held within our Digital Collections. We encourage the ethical use of Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property (ICIP) when reusing First Nations material from our collections. 

SETIS material in the Digital Collections

SETIS (the Sydney Electronic Text and Image Service) created digital editions of texts and images for teaching and research at the University of Sydney. Find out more about SETIS.

Copyright status

If the accompanying information for an Edition does not state that it was reproduced with permission, the University of Sydney Library has identified that these works are no longer under copyright and are in the public domain. These works are free to use for any purpose. To credit the Library, please use: "From the University of Sydney Library" and include the call number or box number and a link to the item, e.g. "From the University of Sydney Library, Add.Ms. 471 https://digital.library.sydney.edu.au/nodes/view/15191"

Published edition copyright

The University of Sydney Library does not claim published edition copyright in SETIS Editions published before 2000. For Editions published from 2000 onwards, the University of Sydney Library is the copyright owner. This copyright does not cover other material within the Edition, except for any University of Sydney logo, shield, or coat of arms.

Using a SETIS edition

  • You may copy and reuse material from the collection for research or study, provided you comply with the Australian Copyright Act 1968.
  • If you wish to use the material for any other purpose, please contact the University of Sydney Library for further information. 
  • For material that is still in copyright, you may need to contact the copyright owner and seek their permission before using the content.
  • Any University logo in an Edition must not be used, except where it appears incidentally when using the unaltered Edition.
