Decretales Gregorii IX
The spine has black ink lettering: Decre Tales M.S. Edges mainly untrimmed. Decoration: red rubrics; caps alternatively blue and red; each letter of 'gregorius' on 1r.a and of 'firmiter' on 1r.b is alternatively blue with red penwork, then red with blue penwork. Dark brown ink fading, ruling plummet, two columns each of 36 lines. Written on vellum in littera gothica textualis. Foliation contemporary roman on the recto and verso of each sheet, no pagination. Marginal glosses and annotations in later hands throughout.
Fisher Library Rare Books and Special Collections copy has John Thomas Simes (with his armorial bookplate (motto DEO NON FORTUNA) and in ink 'No. 1117', and in pencil 'Cau. 9.K.11' written over an erasure on inside front cover), C.G. Schutz (with a note in pencil 'Presented by C. G. Schutz Esq. of Celle' on page facing inside front cover, Sir Charles Nicholson (with his helmet bookplate on inside back cover).
