Georgiana McCrae collection

Georgiana Huntly McCrae (1804-1890), artist, musician, and diarist, was born and educated in London. This collection is made up of all known items written in her hand in the Fisher Rare Books and Special Collections.

Huntly McCrae was taught drawing and painting by John Varley, John Glover and M. D. Serres, and miniature painting by Charles Hayter. 

Huntly McCrae studied at the Royal Academy and in 1820-21 won medals for a miniature and a group of portraits in watercolours from the Society for Promoting Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. 

Georgiana Huntly McCrae and her children immigrated to Melbourne, Australia in 1841 and became a prominent figure in Victoria. Huntly McCrae kept journals during much of their life, some of which were rewritten in later years or were edited and published by her nephew, Hugh McCrae.
